NopeNotes is built with privacy at its core. Our mission is simple: provide a tool that lets you send one-time, private messages without creating a data trail.

That said, to keep the service running sustainably — and improve it over time — we may use privacy-conscious analytics and contextual advertising. Here's how that works.

Our Privacy Philosophy

We believe privacy should be the default, not the luxury upgrade. NopeNotes is designed to collect the minimum possible information needed to operate — and never more than that.

We don't want your personal data. We don't sell your information. And we don't track you across the internet.

But some technical data may still be collected by third-party services we rely on. This page explains what that includes.

What We Collect (and Why)

NopeNotes itself does not collect or store:

  • Account information (there are no accounts)
  • User-submitted names, emails, or passwords
  • Plain-text message content
  • Session behavior like clicks or time-on-page (unless via third-party tools)

However, we may use privacy-respecting services to understand how the site is being used and to support monetization through advertisements. These services include:

We may use third-party providers who collect:

  • Page views and referrer data
  • Basic browser/device info (e.g., OS, browser type)
  • General location (e.g., city-level)
  • Non-identifiable usage patterns (e.g., visits per day)

These tools do not use invasive fingerprinting, and the data is not tied to you as an individual.

📢 Advertising

Personal information may be collected by third-party platforms to serve ads which help keep NopeNotes up and running. These include:

  • IP addresses
  • Advertising identifiers (e.g., cookies)
  • Device/browser metadata
  • Geographic region

Google may also use cookies to serve personalized or contextual ads, depending on your privacy settings.

We'll only enable ads if they are consistent with our privacy standards, and we will always provide a clear consent mechanism as required.

How Your Messages Stay Private

The content of your notes remains private — always. Here's why:

  • Notes are encrypted client-side, before they ever leave your browser
  • The encryption key stays in your URL, and is never sent to our servers
  • Notes are destroyed after a single view or 7 days — whichever comes first
  • NopeNotes has no ability to decrypt your messages

Even if third-party tools are active on the site, your message content is never exposed to them.

Your Control & Consent

We believe in giving you choice. If we enable analytics or ads:

  • You will be notified via a consent banner or settings panel
  • You will have the ability to opt out of personalized ads (as required by law)
  • We'll honor Do Not Track and privacy settings where applicable

We're committed to making these tools as minimal and respectful as possible.
